Morton, Ill., -- The Morton Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Council’s Morton Mentor Program held its 2nd annual closing ceremony in the beginning of May. The program evolved from the chamber’s leadership class and is designed to give the Morton High School students the opportunity to job shadow with a professional in their career field.
The Morton Community Unit School District is very thankful for the Morton Chamber of Commerce and all of the companies who contributed their time and talents for the enrichment of the Morton High School students through the Morton Mentor Program. The participating students were able to learn more about a desired career while experiencing the significance of mentorship and networking.
“The Morton Mentor Program is a tremendous opportunity for our students to explore career areas of interests,” said Superintendent Jeff Hill, Ed.D. “We are fortunate to have a Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Council that embraces our high school students as the workforce of tomorrow, and seeks to expand the mentor base so more students can participate.”
“It is our hope for the program to grow, so, more students can have a meaningful work place experience prior to graduation.”
The Morton Mentor Program has become quite popular among the high school students with more than 140 student applications received since it launched in the spring of 2017. Mentors for the 2018/2019 school year will be recruited over the summer. Persons interested in serving as a mentor, can find more information on the program at http://www.mortonchamber.org.
The mission of Unit School District 709 is to serve the Groveland-Morton community by stimulating a desire for life-long learning, graduating productive individuals, and challenging all to achieve their highest potentials as active participants and leaders in a dynamic, global society.
