Friday, October 1, 2010

Morton, IL - The Morton EDC announced today that they are the recent recipient of a $15,000 Energy Efficiency Community Block Grant, awarded through the Tri-County Regional Planning Commission and the State of Illinois.  “This funding will allow us to move forward with A Greener Morton, a local sustainability program designed to help businesses of all sizes reduce costs and increase sales through achievable sustainability practices.”

The grant funding will be used to develop the point system and website components of the program with local partners including The Iona Group and the Farnsworth Group.  Grimm’s Trucking is also an active participant in the project.  “We are modeling our program after something similar in Saint Louis,” said Daly.  “The difference in our program is the modifications we are developing to make it very friendly for small businesses that don’t have sustainability teams or time to really research these practices.”

The Morton EDC plans to launch this new program in the spring of 2011.  “Our action team is excited about putting this funding to work for our local businesses,” said Daly.
