First Downtown Plaza Design Unveiled

Friday, August 3, 2012

Morton, IL - Today, the Morton Economic Development Council unveiled the first design idea for a new community plaza, proposed for property located near Inspired Arts Academy in Downtown Morton.  The design was created by the Farnsworth Group, an architectural design company hired by the Village of Morton in May to complete a design and budget for the project.

“This design represents the input we received from over 550 Morton citizens through a survey that was conducted last month,” said Bruce Brown, Architect with the Farnsworth Group and longtime Morton citizen.  “We are excited about the design and eager for more public input.”

The design includes shaded seating areas, an interactive water feature, children’s play space, small entertainment stage, and a Veterans Memorial.  “Our Downtown Development Team found elements they liked in two initial sketches presented by the Farnsworth Group to our committee several weeks ago,” said Jennifer Daly, CEO for the Morton EDC.  “The current design represents a combination of those two initial sketches with the best features of each.”

The Morton EDC in partnership with the Village of Morton and the Farnsworth Group hosted a public open house on Friday, August 3rd from 5-7pm at the Downtown Plaza site to share the sketches with Morton citizens and collect their input.  There will also be an online survey for feedback posted at www.mortonedc.org.  The survey opens on Monday, August 6th and will close at noon on Friday, August 10th.

“We hope everyone will take a moment to review the design and share their feedback with us,” said Daly.  “This will be a project of great significance for our community and we want to make sure the final design reflects the interests of our local families.”
