Great Harvest Bread Co. to Open Second Location in MortonMonday, February 28, 2011
Morton, IL – A savory blend of whole grain goodness with a dusting of old-fashioned bakery hospitality is coming to Morton when area residents Sam & Stephanie Polito, along with Buffy Gordon open their second Great Harvest Bread Co. bakery at 664 W. Jackson St. in Morton. The bakery will occupy the space formerly occupied by 2nd Cinema Video, which is adjacent to Lennie’s Quality Meat Shop.
“When we first contacted Sam about bringing a Great Harvest to Morton he was immediately receptive to the idea,” said Jennifer Daly, CEO for the Morton Economic Development Council. “Sam and Stephanie are from this area and they love our community. We all knew it could be a very successful second location for them and a great addition to Morton.”
The bakery, scheduled to open in May, will serve as a community gathering place offering freshly baked whole grain breads and sweets, made-to-order sandwiches, and freshly brewed Peet’s coffee. The Politos own the Peoria Great Harvest Bread Co. at 9010 N. Allen Road, which they opened in October 2005.
At both bakeries, customers can watch the baking process in action as bakers mill the wheat, knead the dough, and handcraft each loaf. Great Harvest bakeries grind premium Montana wheat berries into whole wheat flour daily and blend it with pure-and-simple ingredients such as honey, purified water, herbs and more to ensure products taste incredible and retain important nutrients.
“Great Harvest is all about making the best-tasting products from scratch every day in a fun-loving atmosphere,” said Stephanie Polito. “Fresh-baked bread is something everyone enjoys, and it is a perfect match for our health conscious customers and anyone who loves the taste of freshly baked bread and sweets.”
The Morton bakery will offer a range of fresh baked breads, cookies and other sweet treats. Great Harvest’s
legendary Honey Whole Wheat, Harvest White, Nine Grain and Dakota are among the featured whole grain breads. Popular specialty breads such as Cinnamon Chip, Cheddar Garlic, Cranberry Orange and Pumpkin Chocolate Chip loaves will also be on the menu. Fresh, made-to-order sandwiches will be available and the Polito’s are considering a delivery option for customer’s that have a limited amount of time for lunch.
Sam Polito encourages locals and visitors to stop in for a free slice of items hot-out-of-the oven. “Our bakery is rooted in generosity and we thoroughly enjoy sharing our daily creations.”
Originally founded in 1976 in Great Falls, Mont., Great Harvest has more than 200 bakeries located throughout the nation including Alaska and Hawaii—all bakeries are individually owned and operated, and no two are alike.
