Morton Businesses Featured at LuncheonThursday, January 29, 2015
At the Annual Luncheon on January 27th at the Ashland House, the Morton Economic Development Council shared this video highlighting some of the local businesses who located and grew in Morton during 2014.
Newly elected MEDC President, John Feser, made a presentation to the group of 150 attendees, on the progress of the MEDC’s goals. They include:
In 2014, our clients who expanded or joined us in Morton created 137 new jobs. This places our total new job creation since 2012 at 650. (5 year goal = 750)
Commercial construction reached over $18M based on our Village building permits. Projects including several upgrades and expansions at Caterpillar and Nestles, along with the new Sam Leman Dealership, Bethel Lutheran Church, and the Villas of Hollybrook senior living center. With two years remaining we have already exceeded commercial construction goal by almost $9M.
Again in 2014 our sales tax exceeded our goals, despite the issues facing the retail community due to the I-74 construction project and the Courtland Road upgrade. Our Annual goal is $3.3M and 2014 brought in $3.6M. Overtime, our efforts continue to support our local taxing bodies through property tax generation. Since 2008, our work has generated over $1M in new annual property tax income for our local taxing bodies.
The staff met with 39 companies as part of our Business Development and Retention Program in 2014.
Key-note speaker was farmer-entrepreneur Gregg Sauder, founder and former CEO of Precision Planting. Gregg shared his journey in agri-business and gave us an insight into his recently launched new company - Yield360.
