Morton EDC Announces 2013 Progress

The Morton Economic Development Council gave investors and community leaders an update on the progress of their five year Make it Morton economic development strategy at their Annual Luncheon, held January 28th at the Best Western Ashland House in Morton.

"We have made significant progress during this second year of our five year strategy," said Board President Brad Braker during his comments to a crowd of 126. "I'm happy to report that the Morton EDC surpassed all of our annual goals incuding a record year in commercial construction."

The Make it Morton Strategy includes three primary goals:  increasing commercial construction by 10%, increasing sales tax income by 10%, and creating 750 new jobs in Morton by 2016.

Braker's presentation included the following data for 2013:

Commercial Construction:  $25.3 M  (Goal for 2013 - $9.4 M)
Retail Sales Tax Income:  $3.9 M  (Goal for 2013 - $3.3 M)
New Job Creation:  314.5  (Goal for 2013 - 150)
New Business Locations:  8
Business Expansions:  10
New Annual Property Tax to be Generated by these Projects:  $257,115 estimated
New Annual Sales Tax to be Generated by these Projects:  $100,000 estimated

"We are thankful for the partnership of our Village leadership and staff and also the support of our investors." said Braker.  "Without that support we couldn't be effective."
