Saturday, June 6, 2009

Morton, IL - Today, the Morton Economic Development Council met with Morton Village Trustees to present a "One Year in Review" for their organization.  The presentation included a lengthy list of accomplishments including engagement with 55 business clients, recruitment of two new employers to Morton, and the creation of 47 new jobs.  "The first year for any new organization tends to be consumed with the creation of organizational structure and planning," said Daly.  "We have been able to accomplish some tangible results for our community and our investors in our very first year.  We are really proud of that!"

Accomplishments highlighted during the presentation included the establishment of www.mortonedc.org, an award-winning website, the population of a national database with local, available buildings and sites, and the completion of a retail study and materials for retail recruitment.  "Our six action teams are making great progress on their goals," said Daly.  "Our current Plan of Action runs through 2009 and we have many of our initiatives either underway or completed."

Daly also mentioned a few projects that are planned for the upcoming year including a facade improvement plan for the downtown district, a sustainability program for businesses, and a business plan competition.  "We want to thank our investors and volunteers for their active participation in our initiatives over the past year," said Jennifer Daly, CEO for the Morton Economic Development Council.  "We are making great strides for Morton and we certainly couldn't accomplish our goals without them!"
