Morton Mayor to Join Governor in China

Morton, IL  – Today, the Morton Economic Development Council announced that Mayor Norm Durflinger will travel to China next month with Governor Pat Quinn.  “I am honored to have been invited by Governor Quinn on this important trade mission,” said Mayor Durflinger.  “My only regret is missing several days of the Morton Pumpkin Festival.  I wouldn’t miss the festival unless I needed to do something this important for Morton.”

In February, the Morton EDC announced Yinlun, China’s leading manufacturer of heat exchanger products, would be establishing their US headquarters in Morton.  That announcement began the development of a recruitment strategy by the Morton EDC to bring more China companies to Morton.  “We are planning a targeted recruitment trip to Tiantai, Yinlun’s home, and several other cities in China for next spring,” said Jennifer Daly, CEO for the Morton EDC.  “When the Governor invited Mayor Durflinger to join him for this trade mission, it worked out well for our plans. Durflinger will spend several days in Tiantai meeting with Yinlun and local companies interested in a Morton location and will also take part in an official Sister City ceremony and celebration, establishing an ongoing partnership between Morton and Tiantai.”

Mayor Durflinger will leave on September 16th and return on the 24th.  None of his trip expenses will be paid for with Village funds.  “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be part of a state delegation led by the Governor,” said Durflinger.  “I’m very proud to represent Morton.”
