Multi-Million Dollar Expansion Approved for MortonFriday, October 25, 2013
Morton, IL – Today, the Morton Economic Development Council announced that Nelson Global Products, the parent company that owns Morton Industries and BSI, will expand in Morton, Illinois. “We are making a significant investment in this state-of-the-art facility to keep BSI positioned as the premier handrail supplier to the off-highway, mining, and construction industries, and I am thrilled to announce that Morton will once again be the home of BSI.” said the General Manager of BSI, James Knepp.
The expansion will include the purchase of their current warehouse building on Detroit Avenue, the acquisition of 8 additional acres of farmland near the warehouse, and a multi-million dollar construction project to build a new home for BSI, which is currently operating out of Mapleton, IL due to a fire that occurred at their Morton facility last March. The project will also generate over $106,000 in new property tax revenue annually to Morton.
“Morton Industries and BSI are important members of our Morton business community,” said Jennifer Daly, CEO for the Morton EDC. “Collectively, they employ 680 individuals and contribute over $150,000 in annual taxes to our Village. We are thankful that Nelson Global Products has decided to stay and grow their operations in Morton.”
BSI's expansion has been approved for the State of Illinois’ EDGE Tax Credit program, which will provide tax credits over a ten year period. Morton’s taxing bodies also have informally approved a 50% tax abatement for 5 years to assist the company with their local expansion. These incentives were critical in Morton’s bid for the project, since Nelson Global Products was considering several other options for the rebuilding of BSI.
BSI will be hosting a Ground Breaking Ceremony to celebrate their new facility on Monday, November 5th at 1:00 pm at the site of the new BSI building, near their warehouse at 231 Detroit Avenue. They would like to invite everyone to attend this special ceremony.
