New Antique Shop Opens in Downtown

Friday, April 29, 2011

Morton, IL - The Velveteen Rabbit, a charming and locally owned shop featuring antiques, vintage, collectables, Shabby Chic and used items, and reproductions, opened last week in Downtown Morton. The new boutique sits next to Eli's Coffee Shop on Jackson Street.

Connie Stimeling is the proprietor and based the name of the shop on the classic childrens story book of the same name.  "Like the book, old things from the past are loved and kept even when they become shabby," said Stimeling. "We pass them along to our loved ones and others to continue to love them.  Worn or shabby they are 'REAL' parts of our past and can't be ugly except to people who don't understand."

The Morton EDC joined Stimeling in announcing the new shop.  "Entrepreneurs are the backbone of our community and our downtown," said Jennifer Daly, CEO for the Morton EDC.  "We applaud Connie for taking the leap and opening a local business to fulfill her dream.  The Velveteen Rabbit will add another unique shopping experience to our downtown district."

The Velveteen Rabbit is open from 10am until 5pm everyday except Thursday and Sunday.
